Working Principle

How a progressive cavity pump transfers fluid through synchronized rotor-stator geometry.

Mechanism

The Progressive Cavity Principle

A progressive cavity pump (PCP) is a positive displacement pump that uses a metallic helical rotor turning eccentrically inside a compliant elastomer stator. Each rotation creates a series of sealed cavities that continuously move the fluid from the suction port to the discharge port — producing smooth, pulse-free flow proportional to rotor speed.

Key Features

Why Progressive Cavity Pumps Stand Out

Pulse-Free Flow

Continuous, uniform discharge with stable output — no pulsation, no check valves.

Ultra-High Viscosity Media

Handles sludge, syrup, paint, adhesives and paste-like materials that stall other pump types.

Strong Self-Priming

Excellent dry suction without auxiliary priming or foot valves.

Abrasion & Solids Tolerant

Wear-resistant design conveys water with sand, fibers and fine solid particles.

Linear Flow Control

Flow is proportional to rotor speed — adjust speed to control flow precisely.

Core Structure

Core Components of a PCP

Rotor

Stainless steel helical shaft — the core working element.

Stator

Elastomer-lined cavity that forms sealed chambers with the rotor.

Universal Joint

Transfers torque and compensates the rotor's eccentric motion.

Pump Housing & Flanges

Media inlet/outlet channel with standard DIN / ANSI / ISO connections.

Drive Motor & Gearbox

Matches speed and power to the application.

Pressure Levels

Pressure & Flow — Stage Determines Pressure

Flow is proportional to rotor speed. The number of stator stages determines the maximum output pressure.

StagePressure RangeLevel
1L0–6 barSingle-stage, low pressure
2S0–12 barTwo-stage, medium pressure
3S0–18 barThree-stage, medium-high pressure
4S0–24 barFour-stage, high pressure (custom up to 60 bar+)
